Why study History?

In line with the National Curriculum, at Blackminster pupils study History in order to help them develop a knowledge of Britain’s past and that of the wider world and to help them understand the process of change in society and people’s lives.

Pupils are taught to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence and sift arguments by examining a variety of sources and information. They are taught to express their own opinion, prioritise facts and begin to make judgements about the causes and effects of key events.

Also, in line with the National Curriculum the topics covered include opportunities to study an ancient “empire” and develop a knowledge of the history of Britain from 1066 to 1750.
